A friend is struggling to understand a new concept (like a new skill or topic at work or school) and asks for your help. What do you do?*

I advise them to go talk to someone else. It’s hard for me to explain things that aren't easy for me.

I break it down into smaller, simple steps and explain it in different ways until they get it.

I give a broad overview of the topic and hope they’ll figure it out on their own.

You’re in a group project and one team member isn’t pulling their weight. What’s your next move?*

I avoid conflict. It’s not my job to confront them nor take on extra work.

I talk to the person privately to see if they need help, and point out a few places where the group could use their ideas and contribution.

I take on their part of the work myself to make sure the project is completed on time.

You’re trying to organize a fun group outing, but one person in the group is being very picky and hard to please. How do you handle it?*

I suggest a couple of options and hope the person will eventually agree to something.

I get frustrated with the drama and just make a decision. If they don’t like it, they don’t have to come.

I listen to their concerns, try to find a compromise, and suggest options that everyone can enjoy.

You’re at work or school and someone gives you negative feedback on a project you worked hard on. How do you respond?*

I ask for specifics on how I can improve and take it as an opportunity to grow.

I feel a bit hurt but try not to let it bother me too much. After all, everybody has their own opinion and even though we may disagree, they are entitled to their point of view.

I disagree with the person and make a mental note to avoid them in the future. That’s the last time I listen to that person for feedback.

A firm deadline at work is quickly approaching and your "to do" list keeps getting longer. What do you do?*

Call my boss and ask for an extension. I don't do well with stress.

Wait until the last minute to start working on it. I always perform better under pressure.

Prioritize what must get done by the deadline and determine what can be delayed until a later date.

When you have the opportunity to learn a new skill or hobby, how do you normally approach it?*

I like learning, but get discouraged if it doesn’t come easily and may give up after a while. I start a lot of projects but don’t always finish them.

I immediately dive in and look for resources to help me along the way. I won’t stop until I have it figured out.

I’m not really interested in learning new skills or hobbies and would prefer to just be good at what I already know.

You’re hosting a family dinner and one person at the table is feeling left out. What do you do?*

I don’t really feel like it is my place to involve the person in conversation. If they want to talk, then it’s up to them to jump in.

I try to keep the conversation balanced but if there are people already interested in a topic being discussed, then I just try to let the conversation flow naturally.

I make a point to include the person in the conversation, asking about a topic I know they will be interested in.

You start working with a diverse group of people on a project, some with backgrounds and perspectives very different from your own. How do you approach collaboration?*

I'm always hesitant about group projects. I'd rather just do the work on my own- it's faster that way.

I like working on group projects. It gives me an opportunity to share my own unique perspectives and viewpoints.

I find group projects interesting and enjoy listening to others to discover ideas and viewpoints I may not have considered otherwise.

You’ve come up with a creative idea, but some of your friends or colleagues are hesitant to try it. What do you do?*

I ignore their concerns and proceed with my idea anyway. They'll eventually come around once they see how awesome it is.

I drop the idea, feeling like it’s not worth pursuing since others aren’t on board.

I offer to pilot the idea on a smaller scale, sharing results and feedback for discussion.

You’re asked to volunteer to help children or teens in an after-school program. How do you feel about this?*

I’m excited about the opportunity. Spending time with children and teens is something I enjoy doing regularly.

I’d help out if needed, but I’m not sure I'd want to commit long term.

The idea of working with kids or teens makes me uncomfortable. It feels like too much responsibility.
