Meet Jesse, a High School Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science & Career Technical and Agriculture Education (CTAE) Teacher

A normal teaching day consists of 70% teaching, 10% planning, and probably 20% other. The joys definitely come from the teaching. What I enjoy most about being a teacher is the students themselves. I know how privileged I am to have my students for 3-4 years, and I can build strong relationships over that time. I take joy in watching their skills grow, as well as watching them grow and mature.

The foundation of what I teach is Computer Aided Design & Manufacturing. Depending on the concepts we are working on, students are designing models and creating products with 3D printers, laser engravers, or computer numeric control milling machines (CNCs). My students have made everything from cornhole boards, to custom signs, to plaques, trophies, cups, and figurines.

As you grow as a teacher, you begin to take on more leadership within the “other” category, which can sometimes lead to additional stress and burnout. I’ve learned to balance my work life and prioritize what really matters. The little successes of each student are where I find joy.
