Meet Kelly White

Kelly White, K-12 Teaching Apprentice, Attending Georgia Southern University, Employer: Candler County School System

Funded by GaDOE Rural Teaching Apprenticeship Grant (DOL-ABA2)

My program was getting drawn out to five, six years. [This program] allows me to finish in 4 years which is….more feasible.

On overcoming fear and returning to school:
“It was intimidating at first, especially since I graduated from high school nearly nine years ago… going back to school without doing anything in between was scary.”

On the support she received:
“Dr. Lecki, Dr. Cooper, and my advisors at Georgia Southern have certainly made this process a lot easier.”

On academic success despite doubts:
“I have a 97 so far, which is great, especially because I have been out of school for so long and I was worried about that.”

On gratitude and future aspirations:
“I’m just super, super thankful and blessed to be given this opportunity, and I can’t wait to become a teacher one day.”
