The State Health Benefit Plan provides affordable, quality health care to Georgia’s state and public school employees, with continued benefits as retirees. As a new employee, you will work with your district’s Human Resources Department to enroll in benefits during your onboarding process.

Leave & Holidays
Each school district in Georgia works with their local board of education to set a school calendar with required working days for teachers. Many school districts in Georgia operate on a 190-day working schedule, where teachers accrue 12 paid leave days (3 personal, 9 sick). Leave not used annually can be applied towards early retirement. In addition to paid leave, teachers enjoy the added bonus of breaks throughout the school year and summer to travel and spend time with family.
