Georgia Teachers Initiative Grant Winner

Jesse Kelly of Crisp County High School of Crisp County Schools received $2,500 for the project “Integrating Ultrasound Technology into Animal Science Education.” This innovative initiative brings real-world veterinary and agricultural applications into the classroom by using a portable ultrasound machine to teach reproductive anatomy and pregnancy detection. Students in the FFA and SAE programs will gain hands-on experience in animal science, while adult farmers in the Georgia Young Farmer program will benefit through aligned workshops, strengthening both education and the local agricultural economy. Funding will be used to purchase the ultrasound device and training materials, allowing for safe, practical integration into the curriculum and community learning. The project promotes sustainable farming practices, builds critical thinking skills, and fosters partnerships between students, teachers, and local producers, creating measurable impact in both school and industry.

As an Agricultural Education teacher and Georgia Young Farmer Advisor, innovation in my classroom integrates advanced tools like ultrasound technology to transform animal science and anatomy instruction. It shifts learning to hands-on, industry-relevant applications, connecting students and adult farmers to Crisp County’s agricultural economy. The project will foster critical thinking along with problem-solving skills through data-driven projects; innovation engages learners, preparing them for careers in agriculture. This approach ensures education is dynamic and impactful, equipping students and farmers with skills to navigate our ever-evolving technological landscape. The project also gives students value added by learning a new skill that can be applied to a career objective.
