Teach in the Peach, CFP Foundation will award $1,000 to a Georgia teacher each week

NOMINATE A GEORGIA TEACHER OF THE WEEK

October 30, 2026 – The Georgia Department of Education’s Teach in the Peach initiative and the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation are teaming up through the Georgia Teachers Initiative to celebrate Georgia teachers and provide funding for classroom supplies through a new Teacher of the Week recognition.

Each week for 40 weeks, a Georgia teacher will be recognized as Teacher of the Week and receive a $1,000 DonorsChoose gift code. The recognition builds on the Georgia Teachers Initiative’s ongoing work to celebrate and support educators across the state.

Students, parents, fellow educators, administrators, and community members can nominate teachers year-round through the Georgia Teachers Initiative platform. Nominations should describe how the teacher has made a significant impact on students, their school, or their community.

“The CFP Foundation is thrilled to continue recognizing Georgia’s outstanding educators,” said Britton Banowsky, Executive Director of the CFP Foundation. “We are deeply grateful for our longstanding partnership with the Georgia Department of Education and the Georgia Teachers Initiative to ensure teachers receive the support and resources they need to thrive.”

The partnership is part of a larger CFP Foundation effort providing more than $150,000 across Georgia, Houston, Miami, and Las Vegas to recognize teachers making an impact in their schools and communities. The Teacher of the Week program builds on CFP Foundation’s existing work with Georgia educators and its longstanding support of the Georgia Teachers Initiative and Teach in the Peach, Georgia’s statewide educator recruitment and retention campaign.

“Georgia teachers are the backbone of our communities and make a difference for students every single day,” State School Superintendent Richard Woods said. “I’m grateful to the CFP Foundation for investing directly in Georgia teachers and providing a way for a new teacher to be recognized and celebrated every week. We look forward to celebrating 40 great teachers across the state.”

Teachers selected through the Georgia Teachers Initiative nomination process will receive a $1,000 DonorsChoose gift code to purchase classroom and student resources. The honorees will also be celebrated through Teach in the Peach’s social media channels, which will share their stories and the ways they’re making a difference in Georgia’s schools.

“After 23 years in the classroom, I know how important it is for teachers to feel supported, encouraged, and equipped to succeed,” 2027 Georgia Teacher of the Year Charm Mapp said. “Teaching can be both exciting and challenging, and having the right resources can make a real difference. I’m grateful to the College Football Playoff Foundation for partnering with Teach in the Peach to invest in Georgia’s educators. Recognizing their hard work and providing classroom resources is a meaningful way to remind teachers they are valued and that the work they do every day matters.”

The CFP Foundation will join Teach in the Peach in celebrating the weekly honorees and plans to highlight recipients through monthly posts recognizing their contributions and impact.

Nominations submitted through the Georgia Teachers Initiative will be reviewed monthly, with one teacher selected for recognition each week. Recipients will be chosen based on their impact on students, contributions to their school, and service to their community, with an emphasis on recognizing educators from across Georgia’s regions, school settings, and grade levels.
