Georgia Teachers Initiative Grant Winner

The “Restoring Wetlands at Rome Middle” project blends environmental stewardship with hands-on agricultural education, transforming a neglected wetland area into a dynamic outdoor classroom. This initiative, aligned with Georgia Project Learning Tree, provides students with real-world experience in water quality testing, species inventory, and habitat analysis, equipping them with essential skills in environmental science and agriculture while reinforcing state curriculum standards across science, math, and social studies. The Teacher Grant for Innovation will be used to support key components of the wetlands restoration, including the purchase of native plants, soil amendments, and erosion control materials to revitalize the ecosystem. Additionally, funds will provide water testing kits, biodiversity monitoring tools, and educational materials to facilitate hands-on learning.
